V = 2 × π² × R × r²
Calculate torus volume and surface area from major radius (R) and minor tube radius (r). Sized for O-rings, donuts, and toroidal tanks.
How to Choose the Right Shape Formula
Uniform Cross-Sections (Prisms & Cylinders)
If an object has identical, parallel top and bottom faces with straight perpendicular sides, find the 2D base area first, then multiply by vertical height (V = Base Area × Height).
Pointed Shapes (Cones & Pyramids)
If the shape rises from a flat polygon or circular base to a pointed tip (apex), its volume is always exactly one-third of the enclosing prism (V = ⅓ × Base Area × Height).
Truncated Shapes (Frustums)
For everyday objects like buckets and flower pots that taper without reaching a point, use the frustum formula: V = ⅓πh(R² + r² + Rr).
Rounded / Spherical Shapes
Full spheres use V = ⁴⁄₃πr³, while half-spheres (bowls, domes) use V = ⅔πr³. For capsules (tanks with domed end caps), sum the cylinder and sphere formulas.
